An introduction

I’m Elaine, a creative maker, and learner. Knitting means so much to me; it provides a canvas for my imagination and the inspiration I find everywhere I look. There just aren’t enough hours in the day to satisfy my creative cravings.

Inspiration from the amazing Michael Wylie mid-century brutalist set designs in the TV show Legion.
My journey in creativity began in childhood and continued with a degree in visual communication at the Glasgow School of Art back in the late 90s. My family live in the north of Scotland, while I now call vibrant and inspiring Glasgow my home.

By day, I work in an academic library, helping people with all kinds of research, and spend my teabreaks reading up on whatever I fancy learning, from Highland history and textiles to programming.

In the evenings, armed with a rainbow of vintage colours inherited from my granny, I dive into the art of colourwork knitting. I experiment with colours, fill sketchbooks with swatches, and soak up all the wisdom on colour theory I can find.

Experiments and inspiration in colourwork

I started a blog to share what I’m learning. I was so inspired by the colourwork out there, but with no idea of how to put the colours together succesfully. Everything I tried didn’t look like the vision I had in my head.

So I started learning about colour specifically in knitting. I’ve filled sketchbooks with swatches and ideas, bought countless books on colour theory, and attended every class on colourwork I possibly can. Now I want to inspire others to find the same confidence to bring colour to your knitting world.

As long as there’s yarn to knit and colours to explore I’m as content as can be. I’m proudly bisexual, happily married, and support inclusivity for all, always.

  1. I love colourwork too. It's the most magical experience to watch a design appear as you knit.
